Seeking therapy can be anxiety provoking for some and I hope to provide a safe and supportive environment from which individuals can come to understand and work on their difficulties. I aim to work sensitively and compassionately with people to ensure they are receiving intervention and care that best meets their needs. I believe it is important to take time to build collaborative therapeutic relationships and work integratively to tailor sessions to the needs of the individual.
Sessions will be held weekly and run for 50 minutes. Initial sessions of therapy will be focused on building a better understanding of the current difficulties, this includes identifying triggers and the impact on day to day functioning and exploring elements of the past that may have influenced the current presentation. This will help identify the therapeutic approach that feels right for the individual.
The main modes of therapeutic intervention I work with include:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a negative cycle.
Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR): a talking therapy that's been developed to help people who have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It helps the brain reprocess memories of the traumatic event so the negative images, emotions and physical feelings they cause have less impact.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT): a type of talk therapy for people who experience emotions very intensely. Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others.
Mindfulness: a technique you can learn which involves noticing what's happening in the present moment, without judgement.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): helps people understand and accept their thoughts and feelings, and then adjust their behaviours to match their values
